LAST WILL OF GUILFORD DUDLEY ALSOP

I, Guilford D. Alsop, of the County of Jefferson, in the State of Kentucky, do hereby make my last Will and Testament in manner and following form following that is to say:
1st, I give to my beloved wife Caroline Alsop all my household and kitchen furniture goods in the store, Cattle, and etc. I also give and bequeath to my said wife Caroline Alsop my mulatto Man Tom and Negro Woman Daphna and her two children Jim and Sarah during her natural life and at the of death all said Negros are to descend to my nephew, Guilford A. Alsop and his heirs. And should my nephew die without heirs, all said Negros are to be free; and I desire that my said wife collect all the money that is owing to me and pay all my just debts as soon as practicable.
2nd, I give and bequeath to my said nephew in addition to this above, my sorrel horse and my wearing apparel and my walking cane forever and I desire that if my said nephew shall determine to continue his business in the shop he now occupies that he shall board with my said wife one year after my death free of charge.
3rd, And whereas the legal heirs and representatives of my Uncle John C. Bartlett, deceased of whom I am one have instituted suit in New Orleans against whom I do not know should any money be coming to me from that source, it is to be equally divided between my said wife and nephew, unless the account shall exceed one thousand dollars; in that case my said nephew is to have five hundred dollars and no more. Heretofore I set my hand in Witness this 6th day of April Eighteen Hundred and Forty One.
