LAST WILL OF DRURY ALSUP

Last will of Drury and Tabitha Alsup, Will Book Vol. 2, page 509-10, Bastrop Co. Probate Court Records, Bastrop Co. Texas.
I, Drewry Alsup and Tabitha, my wife, we being each of us of sound and disposing in body and mind, after having resigned our bodies to the earth and our souls to God, now make this our last will and testament.
First, after paying our just debts, we will and bequeathe to our son N. G. Alsup the negro man Benj., also we will and bequeathe to our son Joel Alsup, a negro boy named Stephen, also a sorrel horse called by the family Tamony, aged 3 years, also we will and bequeathe to our son H. B. Alsup, a negro girl Ailey.
Also we will and bequeathe to our daughter, Emily A. Turner, the wife of Sanford Turner, a negro girl named Cynthia, the same to her and the heirs of her body. Also we will and bequeathe to Mary A. Thompson, our granddaughter, now the wife of William Thompson, a negro boy named Jackson, and Nancy, our negro woman give the liberty after our death, of selecting a home among our children or our grandchildren, and with the liberty of receiving pay for her services.
Also we will and bequeathe to Elisha B. Alsup, our son, eight hundred dollars to be paid out of the proceeds of the land, household and perishable property.
Also we will and bequeathe to our daughter Susan H. Smithson, now the wife of John Smithson, the sum of seven hundred dollars to be paid out of the land, etc. Also we will and bequeathe six hundred dollars to the heirs of James Alsup, our deceased son, to be paid of the monies on hand, and debt due to us, and the same be placed in William Thompson’ hands, as their guardian. He, W. Thompson giving bond and security to the Chief Justice of the County of Bastrop, State of Texas. The interest of the same to be used in clothing the heirs of the said James Alsup, deceased, and the principal to be equally divided between the heirs of James Alsup, deceased, as they become of age.
And our son Sidney Alsup, now known in Texas by the name I. S. Gorman, we will and bequeathe him nothing, he Sidney Alsup having drawn more than his portion heretofore or in times past, and one hundred dollars to be set apart or left in the hands of our executors for erecting grave stones on our remains. The reminder after which shall be equally divided among the above heirs. All the above named property is to remain in our hands while living. We also will and appoint Joel Alsup and Newton G. Alsup our executors to carry out the intent and purpose of this will. We acknowledge this to be our will and testament where of hereunto set our hands and seal or seals.
P.S. Our Executers shall not be bound to give security in carrying out the intent and purpose of this will, this the 8th day of February 1861.
