OBITUARY OF ROBERT E. ALSUP
Deming Headlight (Deming, New Mexico) > 1948 > 8, MILITARY HONORS- Robert E. Alsup was born in Belen, NM on January 27, 1920. In 1935 he moved to Deming with his family and was graduated from Deming High School with the class of 1939. After graduation he then moved to Litchfield Park, Arizona where he engaged in farming. He was then sent to Fort Bliss, Texas for training, then to Wichita Falls, Texas, Tucson, Arizona, and many other air bases in the United States for additional training. He was attached to the 371st Bombardment Squadron, 307th Bombardment Group H, when he was sent overseas. S/Sgt Alsup was killed on February 27, 1943, along with the rest of the crew of his plane, when the plane crashed somewhere in the Territory of Hawaii. Survivors are his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. James M. Alsup of Deming; four brothers, William Alsup of Deming, Welden Alsup of Ely, NV., Claude Alsup who is stationed with the Army in Australia, Charles Alsup of Deming; five sisters, Mrs. Cleone Awe of El Paso, TX, Mrs. Vera Chapin of Houston, TX, Mrs. Grace Herb of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Pauline Taylor, also of Houston, and Miss Betty Jo Alsup of Deming. S/Sgt Alsup’s remains arrived in Deming on Wednesday, October 6, accompanied by a military escort from the AGRS, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Funeral Services will be conducted at the gravesite in Mountain View Cemetery with Headquarters Battery, 716th AAA Gun Battalion rendering military honors. Burial will be under the direction of the Mahony Funeral Home.
