GEORGE WASHINGTON POWELL OBIT
Marion County Illinois >Kinmundy Express Newspaper, 1905
George Washington Powell was born Worcester Co, Maryland, Feb. 1, 1840. He came to Indiana in 1881 and engaged in farming and on January 22, 1874 he married Miss Nancy Alsup. To this union was born 8 children; four daughters and four sons. Two daughters and one son preceded the father to the better world. Mr. Powell moved from Indiana to Kansas in 1880 but not liking the climate there, he came to Illinois the following year and settled in Cumberland and Shelby Counties until four years ago. Then he moved to Marion County, when he died April 19, 1905. The funeral was conducted from the church on his farm by the Rev. Hiser. He told his family and friends that he was not afraid to die and was ready to go, and he proved his faith by the cool manner in which he consciously became unconscious to the things of this world. We need not say that he was a loving husband, a kind father and loved by those who knew him for to say that he was a true earnest Christian means all that and more.
Miss Nancy Alsup was a daughter of Leonard Claiborn Alsup and 2nd wife Salina Holmes.
