P. S.
On the 1830 Mobile, Alabama census, I am pretty sure that the Thomas and Josel Alsop listed are from
Spotsylvania, Virginia and not the ones who moved to Alabama from Lincoln.
They are both (Thos & Jos) shown on the 1830 census for Lincoln Co., Tennessee.

Reba
I have a couple of additions and/or corrections for the census information.
I noticed on the 1830 census for Shelby Co., Tennessee that Thomas was listed as the son of John Alsop
and wife Agnes Carmichael.  This Thomas Alsop-Alsup was the son of Thomas Alsop-Alsup and wife
Unicea German Alsup.  The Thomas who married first Alice Williams and then Unicea German was the
son of John Alsup, Sr., and first wife, name unknown as far as I have been able to determine.
Do you know where the name Agnes Carmichael came from?  I have never found any record giving the
name of John Alsop, Sr.’s first wife’s name.  I have seen some guesses with absolutely no proof and one
of the guesses was Agnes Carmichael.  I think that this is one of those cases where people came up with
names of people mentioned in this family’s history as possible wives of John Alsup and eventually it was
accepted as valid with no proof.
In the Giles Co., Tennessee 1830 census, the Joseph Alsup listed there was the son of James Alsup and
first wife, name unknown, who lived in Lincoln Co., Tennessee.  The other Alsup in Giles Co. in 1830, was
Peter P. Alsup who married Mary E. Cox and then moved to Marshall Co., Mississippi by 1840.  Her father
died in Marshall Co. and left a will which identified his daughter Mary as the wife of Peter P.
In the 1830 Grainger Co., Tennessee census, Henry Alsup was the son of James Alsup and first wife, name
unknown, who married Abigail Carmichael as his second wife, and moved to Lincoln Co.  The other Alsup
listed in the 1830 census was William Alsup, son of Joseph Alsop and wife Agnes Pulliam, who died in
Grainger Co.  in his  nineties.
The 1830 census of Hardeman Co., Tennessee has a James H. Alsup who is James K, P. Alsup who later
moved to Missouri.  The “H” should be “K.”
I am going to call you Saturday morning on your birthday.
Jerry D.
__P. S.
On the 1830 Mobile, Alabama census, I am pretty sure that the Thomas and Josel Alsop listed are
from Spotsylvania, Virginia and not the ones who moved to Alabama from Lincoln.  They are both shown
on the 1830 census for Lincoln Co., Tennessee.
